Design and installation of Urban Garden, wellbeing and vegetable garden

Stadium Support Services transformed an underused space at an armed forces site into a multifunctional garden. The amil was to create a relaxing area for residents and provide a space to grow edible plants for both personal use and the central kitchen.

Challenge

ESS enlisted Stadium Support Services to transform an underutilised space at an armed forces site. The goal was to create a garden for relaxation and growing edible plants for residents and the central kitchen.

Scope of Work

  • Design: Create an engaging, multi-use garden from discarded and unused spaces.
  • Ground Preparation: Remove and replant existing shrubs to prepare the ground.
  • Functionality: Include areas for potting and tool storage.
  • Planting: Use easy-care perennial herbs and vegetables suitable for all gardening skill levels.

Solution

Consulting with ESS to define the scope and identify available areas, our horticulture team developed multiple garden design options. The final design included:

  • Six large planters made from natural materials.
  • Two seating areas for relaxation and socialising.
  • A potting shed with all necessary tools.

Once the design was approved, the build was scheduled to minimise disruption to residents. The entire installation was completed within the agreed one-week timeframe, ensuring a swift and efficient transformation of the space. The completed garden at Glenart Castle Mess not only provides a green and peaceful environment for residents to relax but also serves as a practical space for growing herbs and vegetables. This project demonstrates Stadium Support Services commitment to enhancing green spaces through expert design and efficient execution.

The guys worked tirelessly to ensure the work was completed on time to a high standard, my heart went out to them as the weather wasn’t kind but that didn’t stop them getting the job done. The MOD clients are delighted with the results. It’s been great to see the progress already and won’t be long before we see the fruit of Stadium Support services labour. Big thanks to Dermot for making it possible.
