Roof Repair Works to Storage Structure at the Cargo Terminal
The Challenge
Located on an exposed peninsula, the Cargo Terminal is frequently subjected to severe weather conditions. High winds had torn away both the internal and external roof sheeting from the marquee structure used for storage, leaving the facility unusable. One of the exit doors was also damaged and no longer operational, raising both safety and operational concerns.
Scope of Work
-
Full survey of damage to roofing sheets and doorframe
-
Manufacture and installation of 1no 7.5 x 5m external PVC roof sheet
- Manufacture and installation of 1no internal roof sheet
- Removal and disposal of failed sheeting
- Installation of a new push bar exit door with robust PVC door frame
Minor structural modifications including:
- Grinding and adjustment of steel uprights and cross beams
- Temporary relocation of a fire alarm call panel
- Hot works to accommodate new fittings
The Solution
Working across a tight two-day window, the team mobilised quickly to fabricate and install new roof sheets on site, completing the works during a dry weather window. A rope pulley system was used to manoeuvre and secure the internal sheet safely. The damaged door wasn’t built to standard measurements, so the replacement was slightly larger. The team removed the original door set and modified the supporting steel pillars and crossbeam to install the new one. Works were completed with minimal disruption and full operational integrity restored.
“I would like to commend the Stadium Support Services team for a job well done. The team operated with professionalism throughout, and displayed a huge amount of competence in overcoming some unique challenges. CARGO Management are hugely pleased with the result.”
