Verticulture – Innovative Living Wall Management

Introducing Verticulture, our new service dedicated to the care and maintenance of living walls by expert rope access technicians.

Living walls are rapidly gaining popularity across the UK, transforming buildings into greener areas that improve air quality, absorb noise, enhance well-being and boost biodiversity. However, maintaining them can be challenging, especially when it comes to accessing them without damaging plants or disrupting public spaces.

Verticulture combines “vertical” and “horticulture” to provide an eco-friendly solution for maintaining living walls. Our rope access technicians, trained in horticulture, can safely and efficiently reach even the most challenging areas without the need for heavy machinery, scaffolding, or bulky equipment. This reduces environmental impact, minimises disruption to tenants and the public and keeps costs lower for our clients

“Living walls are gaining momentum in the UK, and we’re committed to maintaining them in an environmentally friendly way. Our approach, combining expert horticultural care with rope access, ensures these ecosystems thrive while keeping disruption and costs low.”

FIA2022-Leading Cleaning Operations

Stadium support services appointed to lead cleaning operations

Stadium Support Services resumes FIA2022 contract following four-ear Covid hiatus

Resuming the cleaning contract for the highly anticipated Farnborough Airshow 2022, Stadium Support Services once again deployed multiple expert teams to provide critical cleaning services throughout the event (18-22nd July).

Flexible teams of highly skilled cleaners worked around the clock during the build, live, and breakdown phases of the show. Minimising disruption to guests and reducing the risk of trip hazards, Stadium Support Services championed Cordless Technology, to facilitate successful operations throughout the day. With 70,000m2 of exhibition space to deep clean every night, larger industrial cordless machines were brought in for the out-of-hours crew.

Litter-picking teams played a vital role in delivering a clean site throughout the five days of the airshow. The proximity to Farnborough airport meant FOD (Foreign Object Debris) was a primary concern for its runways. Safety standards were continuously monitored by Stadium Support Services ensuring all runways were kept clear.

Leading the way in large-scale exhibitions and events, Farnborough International prides itself on working with expert, like-minded suppliers and partners to ensure a high-level experience at all areas of our 500,000sqm show site. As always, it has been brilliant to work with Stadium Support Services to deliver our extensive cleaning operation.

Facade Repair – Q Technical

Q Technical Services contacted Stadium Support Services to assess and repair a weather-damaged façade at Parkview House.

The façade had dislodged during a storm, posing a safety risk. The task involved removing the dangerous part and repairing the remaining façade.

Challenge

Accessing the affected area presented a challenge due to a height-restricted entrance to the rear carpark. The required vehicle for the job was a truck-mounted boom capable of reaching a minimum height of 20 metres. Finding a vehicle that met these specifications while being compact enough to pass through the restricted entrance was crucial.

Solution

Stadium Support Services successfully sourced a specialist vehicle that met the necessary height requirements and could fit through the restricted entrance. This vehicle allowed the operators to reach the required areas and complete the repair work within the allocated timeframe.

The Result

After careful assessment, a damaged area of the façade was identified and promptly repaired. The repair process involved riveting and resealing the affected section. As a result, the area was left safe and restored to its original state, mitigating the safety risks associated with the dislodged façade.

Q Technical Services expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the project. Stadium Support Services’ ability to mobilise quickly and  efficiently complete the repair work demonstrated their professionalism and expertise. The façade was successfully restored, ensuring the safety and structural integrity of Parkview House.

We reached out to Stadium Support Services when we encountered a weather-damaged façade issue at Parkview House. The dislodged part posed a safety risk, requiring urgent attention and repair.

The team at Stadium Support Services quickly assessed the situation and provided an effective solution. Despite the challenging access due to a height-restricted entrance, they managed to source a specialised vehicle that met our requirements.

Their expertise and efficiency were evident throughout the project. We are highly satisfied with the services provided by Stadium Support Services. Their professionalism, attention to detail, and ability to find solutions within strict timeframes were exceptional. We would gladly recommend their services to others in need of façade repairs or related work.

Hoist Removal

Cushman & Wakefield engaged Stadium Support Services to handle the demolition and removal of two disused cradel hoists situated in Birmingham on the L10 roof area of a building.

Challenge

The building’s central location prevented the use of a crane for the removal process, which meant the project demanded complex high-altitude demolition work, as well as material removal down to ground level. The team was also briefed to ensure that existing tenants were not disturbed and the integrity of the rooftop was preserved.

Solution

The team devised a strategy for removing the hoists and chose to construct cantilever scaffolding, which is ideal for scenarios where regular scaffolding systems cannot be set up due to unsuitable ground surfaces. This kind of scaffolding is often referred to as needle scaffolding because needles serve as the scaffold’s foundation. In this case, needles were extended from the building’s wall to create a working platform that enabled access to and removal of the hoists from the roof without causing ground-level disturbances to the public.

Before commencing any work, Stadium Support Services conducted an asbestos survey and ensured that electrical isolation was implemented to create a safe working environment. The hoists were then dismantled, and gas cutting was kept to a minimum to reduce noise levels.

The disassembled hoists were carried downstairs and transported through public areas in closed storage trolleys to prevent any inconvenience to the existing tenants. Throughout the building, protection was installed to safeguard the floors within the building.

The Result

The project was completed successfully, with the Stadium Support Services team removing both hoists from the roof level without any disturbance to the public or existing tenants. The cantilever scaffolding and closed storage trolleys provided a safe and secure way to transport the hoists through the building, while the floor protection ensured the building was left in the same condition as before the project started.

The client was pleased with the outcome of the project and commended Stadium Support Services on their professionalism and attention to detail throughout the process.

I recently had the pleasure of working with Stadium Support Services for a project that involved the removal of two redundant cradle hoists from the roof of our building in central Birmingham. A cantilever scaffolding was erected to access the hoists, and the project was completed without any disturbance to the public or existing tenants.

The team at Stadium Support Services was extremely professional, ensuring that all safety measures were in place before starting the project. We were extremely pleased with the outcome of the project and would highly recommend Stadium Support Services for any similar projects. Their attention to detail and professionalism was second to none, and we felt confident that the project was in the best hands throughout the process.”

Lockmetal, Cladding & Pipe Installation

Lockmetal, Cladding & Pipe Installation

Case Study

Lockmetal

Lockmetal is a London-based company that specialises in statement cladding design, supply and installation. forcommercial and residential clients. Stadium Support Services was contracted to complete a project in Barking, London.

The team received a mandate to conduct visual surveys on sections of the rainwater pipe system. However, when the project scaffolding was taken down, some tasks remained unfinished, and there were no other means of accessing the affected areas. As a result, rope access techniques were utilised to gain access.

Stadium Support Services was subsequently engaged to perform remedial work on the vertical rainwater pipes located on the building’s façade. This work involved installing new aluminium RWP’s and hoppers, hauling them into place, and applying weather sealant to complete the task.

Challenges

The project posed multiple obstacles that needed to be overcome to achieve a positive outcome. Firstly, the rainwater pipework’s location was 45 meters high, which presented a significant challenge to our team. Rope access was deemed the only viable option to access the specified areas. Secondly, the project necessitated a high level of technical expertise to ensure that the remedial work was performed safely, with no danger to any personnel at ground level outside of the exclusion zones. Finally, the project had to be completed within a tight timeframe to enable Lockmetal to obtain its Practical Completion (PC) certificate.

Solution

Our team of skilled rope access technicians conducted visual surveys, identified the necessary remedial work, and developed a comprehensive plan for executing the work safely and effectively.

Our use of rope access techniques allowed us to access the designated sections of the rainwater pipework while the existing scaffolding was being dismantled. Additionally, our team possessed the required technical expertise to carry out the work to the highest standards, resulting in a final installation that satisfied the client’s expectations.

The Result

Stadium Support Services completed the repair works within the agreed timeframe, enabling Lockmetal to achieve their PC certificate. The project was completed without any incidents or accidents, and the customer was extremely satisfied with our work. Our company has worked on numerous sites for Lockmetal, and we have achieved a 100% success rate for all contracted repairs and installations.

The Lockmetal project presented several challenges, including the location of the rainwater pipe work, technical expertise requirements, and tight timeframe. Our company was able to overcome these challenges by utilising rope access techniques, providing the necessary technical expertise, and completing the project within the agreed timeframe. The successful outcome of the project has strengthened our relationship with Lockmetal, and we look forward to working on more projects together in the future.

We have worked with Stadium Support Services on numerous projects in the past, and they have always delivered outstanding results. They have an excellent track record of achieving 100% success rate for all repairs and installations they have worked on for us. The quality of their work was exceptional, and we are extremely pleased with the results. The team was always courteous, professional, and went above and beyond to ensure that the project was completed to the highest standards.

We highly recommend Stadium Support Services to anyone looking for a reliable and professional company to carry out similar work. We look forward to working with them on future projects.”
