90 Seconds With…James Hewitt
Meet James Hewitt, who is leading the operational delivery of Verixo, our new intelligent asset management platform.
With a background spanning IT, professional football, operations and asset management, James brings a wealth of practical and technical experience to the role. We put him on the clock to find out more.
Q: Tell us a little about your background.
I started out in IT and have worked in roles including Helpdesk, Site Engineer and Network Engineer across several industries. More recently, I moved into operations and asset management, helping to research, develop and deliver a bespoke furniture and asset management platform.
Q: You also spent 11 years working in professional football. What did that involve?
I worked as a Stadium Engineer, supporting matchday technology and collecting player performance data. I covered competitions ranging from League One to the Premier League and Champions League and worked alongside broadcasters including Sky Sports. It was a fantastic experience.
Q: What does your role involve now?
I’ll be leading the operational delivery of the Verixo platform, making sure the technology, surveys and ongoing asset management service work effectively for our clients.
Q: What excites you most about the opportunity?
Getting to know the team, understanding how everything fits together and finding practical ways to make things work better. I enjoy improving processes, making life easier for the people around me and helping to build something that is set up for long-term success.
Q:What makes Verixo different?
It gives organisations a clear, live view of the assets they own, where they are and what condition they’re in. That information helps teams make better decisions about maintenance, investment, reuse and replacement rather than relying on disconnected spreadsheets or guesswork.
Q: What do you enjoy outside work?
Sport is a huge part of my life. I enjoy rugby league, football and golf and I coach my son’s Under-10 rugby league team. Otherwise, I’m usually spending time with my young family and making memories.
Q:Which teams do you support?
Manchester United and Wigan Warriors – through the highs and the lows!
Q:Favourite Food?
A Wigan kebab! There’s no competition – you can’t beat a pie on a buttered barm.
Q:Favourite holiday destination?
The next one! I always enjoy having something to look forward to.
Q:Tea or coffee?
Coffee. Definitely Coffee.
Q:Finally, tell us something people might not know about you.
One of my nicknames is “Scoops”. Despite being 5ft 9in, I’ve somehow ended up with a 6ft 1in wingspan!
