90 Seconds With…James Hewitt

Meet James Hewitt, who is leading the operational delivery of Verixo, our new intelligent asset management platform.

With a background spanning IT, professional football, operations and asset management, James brings a wealth of practical and technical experience to the role. We put him on the clock to find out more.

Q: Tell us a little about your background.

I started out in IT and have worked in roles including Helpdesk, Site Engineer and Network Engineer across several industries. More recently, I moved into operations and asset management, helping to research, develop and deliver a bespoke furniture and asset management platform.

Q: You also spent 11 years working in professional football. What did that involve?

I worked as a Stadium Engineer, supporting matchday technology and collecting player performance data. I covered competitions ranging from League One to the Premier League and Champions League and worked alongside broadcasters including Sky Sports. It was a fantastic experience.

Q: What does your role involve now?

I’ll be leading the operational delivery of the Verixo platform, making sure the technology, surveys and ongoing asset management service work effectively for our clients.

Q: What excites you most about the opportunity?

Getting to know the team, understanding how everything fits together and finding practical ways to make things work better. I enjoy improving processes, making life easier for the people around me and helping to build something that is set up for long-term success.

Q:What makes Verixo different?

It gives organisations a clear, live view of the assets they own, where they are and what condition they’re in. That information helps teams make better decisions about maintenance, investment, reuse and replacement rather than relying on disconnected spreadsheets or guesswork.

Q: What do you enjoy outside work?

Sport is a huge part of my life. I enjoy rugby league, football and golf and I coach my son’s Under-10 rugby league team. Otherwise, I’m usually spending time with my young family and making memories.

Q:Which teams do you support?

Manchester United and Wigan Warriors – through the highs and the lows!

Q:Favourite Food?

A Wigan kebab! There’s no competition – you can’t beat a pie on a buttered barm.

Q:Favourite holiday destination?

The next one! I always enjoy having something to look forward to.

Q:Tea or coffee?

Coffee. Definitely Coffee.

Q:Finally, tell us something people might not know about you.

One of my nicknames is “Scoops”. Despite being 5ft 9in, I’ve somehow ended up with a 6ft 1in wingspan!

Stadium Support Services and Verixo launch intelligent asset management service

Stadium Support Services has partnered with Verixo to launch a new nationwide asset verification and lifecycle management service, giving workplaces, stadia and venues a complete, accurate and live view of their furniture, fixtures and equipment.

The service combines Stadium Support Services’ facilities management expertise with Verixo’s intelligent technology. Every asset is photographed, condition-graded, barcoded and linked to its location within a live digital register.

This gives organisations the evidence they need to make informed decisions about maintenance, refurbishment, relocation, reuse and replacement while helping to reduce costs, extend asset life and support sustainability targets.

Tackling a costly blind spot

While buildings, plant and IT equipment are routinely managed as valuable assets, furniture, fixtures and equipment can often be overlooked despite representing one of the largest asset groups within an organisation.

Around 300 tonnes of office furniture is sent to landfill every working day in the UK, with more than half of discarded furniture estimated to remain suitable for reuse or refurbishment.

A typical office chair contains around 35kg of embodied carbon, while reusing furniture can reduce lifecycle carbon emissions by 80–90% compared with buying new.

Without accurate information, organisations risk making unnecessary purchases, disposing of assets prematurely and missing opportunities to repair, relocate or reuse existing furniture and equipment.

By replacing disconnected spreadsheets with verified, live data, the new service helps organisations understand what they already own, extend the life of their assets and plan future investment more effectively. It also provides measurable evidence to support sustainability and ESG reporting.

One live view of every asset

The Verixo platform creates a comprehensive digital asset register, with each item photographed, condition-graded, barcoded, location-tagged and tracked throughout its lifecycle.

Clients can access their information through a dedicated online portal and self-service mobile app, giving teams continued visibility of their assets long after the initial survey has been completed.

The technology can reduce survey time by more than 40%, with audit-ready reports available within 48 hours of completion.

Rather than treating an asset survey as a one-off exercise, Stadium Support Services and Verixo provide an ongoing service designed to keep the register accurate and useful as assets are purchased, moved, repaired or removed.

Turning surplus assets into social value

When an asset is no longer needed, replacement does not have to mean disposal.

Through Verixo’s exclusive UK ethical clearance partner, Waste to Wonder Worldwide, suitable furniture and equipment can be redirected to charities, schools and communities where it can continue to deliver value.

This helps divert usable assets from landfill while creating measurable environmental and social impact.

Paula Gibson, Communications Manager at Waste to Wonder Worldwide, said:

“Our exclusive partnership with Verixo represents an exciting step forward in helping organisations embed sustainability throughout the asset lifecycle. By integrating ethical clearance directly into the platform, we can help organisations turn surplus assets into opportunities that benefit charities, schools and communities in the UK and around the world.”

James Sinclair, Account Director at Stadium Support Services, said:
“For too long, asset surveys have been treated as a precursor to relocation, clearance or replacement. Our priority is different: helping clients understand what they already have and get the greatest possible value from it.”
“If an asset is in good condition and has years of useful life remaining, the data will show that. Better information leads to better decisions, lower costs and more sustainable estates.”
James Hewitt, Head of Operations for Verixo at Stadium Support Services, added:
“Most organisations know exactly where their major plant and IT equipment is, but often have very little visibility of the thousands of furniture and workplace assets spread across their estate.”
“Verixo turns that fragmented information into one live, trusted register. By combining AI with verified, item-level data, we give organisations the information they need to reduce costs, manage assets more effectively and plan future investment with confidence.”

The service is available immediately to commercial workplaces, offices, stadia and venues throughout the UK.

Q: What excites you most about the opportunity within your division right now?

The chance to really build and grow Game Day Retail within Stadium Support Services. There’s a huge opportunity to help clubs make more of their spaces by turning underused areas into revenue-generating environments through bespoke retail units, bars and fan infrastructure, while improving the overall matchday experience. Seeing how these spaces can create a better experience for supporters while also adding commercial value is really exciting.

Q: If you could achieve one major milestone in the next 12 months, what would it be?

I’d love to look back and see several standout projects delivered that clearly demonstrate what Game Day Retail can do. Not just visually, but showing genuine impact through increased revenue, improved fan experience and solutions that clubs can see working in practice.

Q: What’s one challenge you’re looking forward to tackling head-on?

Helping clubs look at spaces differently. There are often areas around stadiums and venues that are underused or overlooked and the challenge is identifying how those spaces can work harder and create more value.

Q: What do you think clients will be expecting more of over the next few years?

Clubs will be looking for greater flexibility and smarter solutions. They want spaces that can adapt, create revenue opportunities, and improve the supporter experience, while remaining practical and quick to implement.

Q:What’s one area of the division you’re most focused on building or strengthening?

Definitely our bespoke design capability. Every club and venue is different, so understanding how supporters move around a venue, where people naturally gather and where opportunities exist is a really important part of creating something that works.

Q: If someone interviewed you again in 12 months, what would you want to be talking about?

I’d want to be talking about successful project delivery, strong relationships with clubs and seeing the positive impact our work has had. Ultimately, creating solutions that clubs genuinely value and want to build on.

Q:What makes this area of the business different or valuable to clients?

We’re not simply installing units or structures. We’re looking at the wider picture and helping clubs make better use of space, improve supporter experience and create new commercial opportunities around matchdays and events.

Q:Three words that describe where you want the division to be this time next year?

Established. Trusted. Growing.
