High-Level Atrium Beam Remediation
Stadium Support Services were appointed by Mace to carry out remedial works to high-level atrium beams within a live construction environment.
Works included cleaning, surface preparation and the application of protective coating systems to steel and timber elements.
The Challenge
High-level atrium beams above a live construction site could not be accessed using conventional cradle systems due to the open atrium layout.
Stadium Support Services were required to design and deliver a safe work at height access solution that enabled operatives to work around the structure without disrupting other trades or compromising site safety.
The works required careful coordination within a busy environment, including protection of completed finishes below and adherence to programme deadlines, with all activity delivered to the client’s health and safety and quality standards.

The Solution
Stadium Support Services deployed a specialist in-house IRATA rope access team with proven experience in surface preparation and the application of industrial coating systems. This approach provided safe and flexible access to the atrium structure without the need for fixed cradles or intrusive temporary works.
A detailed access plan and method statement were developed in collaboration with the principal contractor to ensure works could be carried out safely above a live construction site. Careful coordination with other trades allowed the project to be maintained, while protective measures were put in place to safeguard completed finishes below.
The works were delivered efficiently, supporting project completion and client sign-off.
